Mural or Fresco Myanmar Art Paintings

Myanmar art of Frescoes or mural paintings adorn many of Bagans monuments. Among other temples with the best preserved frescoes are the Patothamya, Nagayon, Abeyadana and Nanpaya.

The technique to create this mural paintings is, first to smoothen the wall to be painted with a mixture of lime, vegetable and animal material, after it will let dry for a few days.

Now the master painter draws the outline with chalk or ink, after this he will apply colors with the help of his assistants.

Those colors are composed of compounds made from vegetables, animals (mainly fat) and locally available minerals.
The paintings have no perspective, instead lines of many variations are drawn and pigments with strong colors are used to create lively and expressive pictures.

The gaps between the lines are filled with floral and geometric patterns or just some creative inspiration of the artist.

Usually the frescoes tell a story, this story is rendered in one picture with many scenes divided by floral boundaries, some space is left to write explanations. The main themes are jataka stories very often blended with scenes of the daily life of that time.

We offer you an unique possibility to enjoy the local Khmer people, take a look in their house, walk in their village, joining with rural kids at their

school, go with the ox cart through an oldest village, ride bicycle, training how to weaving the mat, and other baskets, eating in a traditional Khmer food , training the Khmer traditoinal dance with children at an orphanage.

Early in the morning pick up from the Hotel or Guesthouse by car or Tuk Tuk (Transportation Siem Reap - Orphanage will pay by own account) to Rainbow Orphanage sited about 30km from Siem Reap. There will be the cycling to the village along the paddy countryside roads.

The ox cart is waiting to bring you around the village . You will see how the local people live, eat and work.

Our children or local guide will explain how close the Khmer people are working together, what kind of seasonal works. We are going also inside a traditional Khmer house, it’s very interesting to see how they live.

Example: How they do sugar palm, harvesting, rice growing, what kind of important job in their village there are etc.

Have lunch at orphanage (The food and drinks we are serving is Khmer food)

You will enjoy with the children and teach them some education gams or sport if you like.

They will arrange and show you how to make their baskets, weaving mat… you can train these skills with them (If you don’t like no problem).

In the afternoon back to Siem Reap
